A Compromise of Principles.

I just can't keep up with Amelia's obsession with being read to. I easily read her 20 books each day, and "book" is her first word in the morning (OK, at least after "Hi!") or after a nap... or actually the word she says the most all day. She follows me around with a book saying "Book! Lap! Lap!" She recognizes the library when we drive past, and she asks when we get in the car if we're going to the "brery." I love to read to her. But I can't do it ALL DAY LONG. So I checked a video out at the library yesterday. She loves it! It is a really silly, low-budget bilingual spanish educational video, and she makes me feel better about it by following along and trying to say the words.
I'm cringing inside, but it's good to violate certain principles now and then, so you don't take yourself too seriously. Also, I got the dishes washed and picked up the house.

Okay, I know we are at a slightly different stage, but I am completely empathizing at the moment. I keep wondering why I can't just send my kids off to school like everyone else. Why is it that I have to try so hard to do figure out what's best and then somehow recreate the ideal parenting scenario in a world that is very much not ideal? And the biggest factor is that I am not actually an ideal parent! Oh, well. I try. But seriously, I do have a set of Kipper on DVD that I loved... very low key! I used to even take naps while Ethan sat next to me on the bed and watched them. That was in the Philippine heat, where I couldn't make it through the day without a nap, but my four year old could, arg! Anyway, let me know if you want them. I know it's a compromise, but I am slowly learning that's what life is all about.

I was actually thinking about Kipper today as I was listening to "Boca Beth," wishing it sounded more soothing. If you're done with them, we'll take 'em!

Hey, I grew up on PBS educational shows and I think it did me right. Of course, I was forced to read for 1 hour to get 1/2 of television, but I am thankful for it now!

Good job, Ariana, I can't imagine the pressure when a little person is following you around all day demanding more of you.
