Gardening...

For the first time ever, I have lots of space for gardening. I took advantage of having a camera for the day, and next I will post some pictures of our flowers! These first pictures are of a salad garden. There are a few different kinds of greens in here, and they sprouted from seeds really quickly. This doesn't really do it justice, since the plants were severely shorn the other night for salad for four. It is so wonderful to go outside with the scissors and pick fresh salad greens!

We are also growing broccoli, tomatoes and strawberries. The broccoli is taking off fast and will be ready soon. I need to plant some more so we can keep enjoying it in the summer! In this phase of being a new gardener, I am just completely surprised that the plants are still alive and growing. It's a lot of fun!

I am jealous. I planed a garden in our complex, but so far, its not doing so well. I don't think it gets enough sun and its been too damp. What is your secret? I would put potted plants on my stoop, which does get sun, but my neighbors...don't like me having anything out there. Things disappear when I put them out there. Hmm.

Cool! I am jealous of your endless growing season. I can't wait to get some stuff planted here. When I was there I grew tomatoes in the side yard and had sooooo many. I had way more cherry tomatoes than could be consumed fresh and so ended up making lots of tomato sauce out of those itty bitty things with lots of little skins. So I learned that one cherry tomato plant was enough even if they sell them in packs of four or six!

Yum. I have very happy memories of eating tomatoes off the vine in the summer, all warm from the sun. Enjoy those salads!
